DO SOMETHING!

I’m in Exodus 14 this morning, at the part in the story where Moses and the Israelites have made it out into the wilderness and are now being hotly pursued by Pharaoh and his army. As they are camping by the sea they look up and see Pharaoh coming after them, and begin to panic. Moses, doing what he thinks is best says the following:

13 “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent.”

Sounds good right? Well I think this is an accurate assumption Moses made here, but you quickly see God intervene and put Moses in his place:

15 “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward. As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land…’ “

I picture God going, “Well don’t just sit there, DO SOMETHING!” Can you apply this situation to your own life? How often do we rightly give God the reigns, and just kind of sit on our rear ends waiting for God to destroy the enemy? Or how often do we submit our plans to Him (as we should), but then wait for Him to carry them out for us? I think we, like Moses, think we are doing the right thing, when really God wants us to carry it out a step further and DO SOMETHING!

Moses was correctly assessing the situation and recalling God’s character and power. He knew from previous experience that these big situations were best left to God’s authority. However, God had plans to use Moses in the destruction process. He has big plans for us too. Sometimes there will be an enemy pursing. Sometimes there is a plan or vision that God has given to us. Sometimes there is a friend or relative who needs to be enlightened by the gospel. While I VERY much believe that God is capable of accomplishing all of this without us, I know that He is a God who wants to include us. He wants us to take action beside Him and carry out His plan WITH Him.

I would encourage you all today to seek that action out. Examine the situations you’re facing and ask God what step He would like for you to take forward. Look at Moses situation and apply that to your life. Listen to God when He says to you (like He did to Moses), “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward.” “Allison, why are you sitting there asking me to do it all? Go talk to that person! Stop asking Me to put that fire out, walk THROUGH it with Me! Don’t hide in your house and expect me to bring people to you, go out and I’ll be the one to lead you to them!”

Let’s all listen to God’s leading voice this week, and work with Him as He calls us to! Love you guys!

P.S. I am not saying that you should ALWAYS move forward. I do believe sometimes God asks us to sit and be still before Him and allow Him to work. I’m just challenging us to seek out answers and see if God does want us to take action alongside Him. I didn’t want you to think I was pushing us to take hold of the reigns:)
